The WINGS WorldQuest flag is recognized as a symbol of excellence in discovery and knowledge, and certifies the significance of its carrier's endeavor.
To be eligible for a flag, you must:
Be over the age of 18.
Be proficient in English writing or have reliable access to someone who can type your email correspondence, updates, and Flag Report in English.
Be leading an expedition with original research within the next 12 months, but no sooner than 6 weeks from the date you submit your application.
Be able to provide us with photos that are not under a confidentiality contract if you are partnered with an organization that may require such a contract (i.e., Nat Geo).
Note: This does not apply to photographs held by certain national parks, such as the Galapagos Islands. We understand that they have a strict publication policy.
If you are a student, you must be in a PhD program (we do not award grants to undergraduates or MA students).
Note: While Flags are sometimes awarded to PhD students leading data-collection expeditions to supplement their original research, WINGS is not a source of funding for PhD programs. We do not fund PhD lab-based research.
We do not fund:
Student tuition.
Students taking part in school-led trips.
Undergraduates or MA students.
Paying participants on tours.
Strictly lab-based research.
