WINGS Fellow and pioneer of astronomy, Vera Rubin has been profiled on ScienceAnswers.org, about her many achievements. The article by Gemma Lavender, highlights Rubin’s commitment to science by overcoming obstacles such as being discriminated against because of her gender. At the time, Rubin’s discoveries such as finding evidence for the existence of dark matter and the idea of galaxy clusters, were not well received by the scientific community which at the time was predominately dominated by men. However, as time passed Rubin’s amazing work has gotten the recognition it deserves and her resilience has led her to make even more remarkable scientific breakthroughs.
