“I want to grow with ease! There are many skills, creative interests, and life experiences I hope to gain in life — and that requires me making and protecting time for myself to do so! Rather than forcing it into a busy life (which is my tendency), my resolution is to create a life with enough space for all of me. I have two Arctic expeditions planned for 2025, and my goal is to remote-base out of the Arctic for 3-4 weeks before/after one of them to get a taste of the Scandi life! What do I plan to do while there? Rest, explore, write, dive (hopefully), sauna, and just immerse myself!”

“In 2025, Iβm excited to launchΒ Pioneers of the Possible, a dynamic event series that celebrates trailblazers who are rewriting the rules of whatβs achievable. With a renewed commitment to inspiring actionΒ and curiosity with Citizen science I’ve launched a new speaking site (sunnivasorby.com) and will hit the road to talk to science centers and schools in NA. Reach out if you have ideas on locations or events that resonate.”

“My new year’s resolution is to fund a canopy walkway in the world’s most endangered forest, the Mata Atlantica, outside of Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL, and to obtain funding in time for the COP meetings next November so we can take international delegates into the 8th continent (aka, the forest canopy) to persuade them to support forest conservation.”

“My work has focuses on mobility justice, but this year my New Yearβs Resolution is to focus my future exploration work on border abolition and passport equity. As an explorer from the Global North, I am allowed access and freedom of movement that my sister explorers are not by the simple restrictions placed upon their passports. The world of exploration has become progressively more restrictive over the past century as borders and passports become more regulated and restricted, especially for women, especially for women throughout the Global South.”

“In 2025,Β I will continue the research related to rock minerals (Tochigi dolomite) which I have started since my expedition as WWQ flag carrier. This natural resource has shown its great potential for biomedical application. Me and my team have won an exhibition award for this research work! For this new year’s resolution, I want to focus more on the work-life balance. I plan to go someplace I’ve never been, step outside of my comfort zone and keep learning new things.”

“My resolution for 2025 is to jump wholeheartedly back into diving and increase my my dive skills so I can confidently participate in expeditions and other marine conservation activities and tease out and tell our oceansβ rich stories in visceral ways. I am also in the process of developing an innovative VR dive simulator that replicates not only the environment, but also the physicality of diving. Producing high-fidelity, valuable simulations requires an intuitive sense of the movement and flow β and potential issues – of dives. So far, my ocean projects have been snorkel-based, but my ambitious future plans β through Blueshift Immersive, Three Otters Media and The Seabirds – will benefit from my going deeper. I believe there is an alchemy in combining diving, ocean restoration and VR, and I know deep down that investing in these projects is investing in the future of the planet. I want to contribute firsthand dive experience to our immersive stories, to share not only the images and sounds, but the feelings and emotions, be it in dive training simulations, game-based VR, or virtual underwater worlds.”

“2025 conservation resolution: To expand our work studyingΒ how marine debris acts as a vector for transferring invasive species in our oceans! First step: to analyze environmental DNA samples taken aboard the Darwin200 Expedition (supported by WINGS) and identify any invasive species detected as we travelled between Sydney and Hobart, Australia. Next steps: collaborate with scientists worldwide to track the spread of marine invasive species. In 2025, I also plan to advance my role in training the next generation of scientific divers by leading dive safety and scientific diving courses.”

“My new yearβsΒ I wish is for us to raise enough money to expand a critical area of protected habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas of Uganda. This will reduce conflict with people and the threat of zoonotic diseases.Β “

“I have been collecting data and running analyses over the past couple years and am hoping this year will be the year of publications! I also hope to continue developing relationships I’ve been fortunate to make over the years with fellow women in STEM. As I work towards my graduation, I am hoping to find good fortune in the job market and useΒ this season ofΒ my career to make connections throughout the world!”

“Let us bundle together to slow down the melting of our glaciers. They are climate relevant, water reservoirs, crucial for indigenous people and emblematic for local communities. Glaciers harbour a variety of living organisms which contribute to the fod webs. It is on us to inform the general public and the stand up against science scepticism by providing authentic science communication! Wings World Quest supports us in doing that.”

“To tend the earth in a caretaking wayβ¦

“While I am sure all WINGS Flag Carriers wish to keep traveling to explore new terrain and new cultures- as I do – I also want to find better ways to share all I have experienced.”
